Senior Center In-Home Services

Case Management - home visits, completion of assessments, assistance in determining needed services - scheduling of services.

Homemaker - light housekeeping, errands

Personal Care - assistance with bathing, assistance with ambulation, no administration of medicines

Respite - relief for caregivers - sitting with client so that caregiver can take care of their own needs

Companionship - visiting with client

Home Delivered Meals - meals delivered generally on a once-a-week basis - meals include main course, bread, milk and dessert

Emergency Alert Response - attaches to present phone system. Client wears either a pendant or bracelet and pushes a button to obtain help in the event of an emergency.

Consumable/Durable Medical Supplies - disposable products such as diapers, bed pads, etc. and also wheelchairs, walkers, canes, etc. (those items that are not disposable)

Pest Control - initial spraying and monthly spray for pests

Environmental Modifications - Wheelchair ramps, widening of doorways, repair of floors, any modification that assists a disabled person or ensures safety in the home.

Home Care for the Elderly - Subsidy program - Check for caregiver monthly - reimbursement of expenses for a client - purchase of  consumable/durable medical supplies

There are 4 different programs - some programs offer more that others and criteria has to be met for a client to qualify.

EHEAP-energy assistance program
Christmas for Seniors-through several different local agencies, providing needed gifts to seniors

The Wakulla County Senior Citizen's Center

WCSC is your local hometown meeting place – It's a place where friendships are welcomed and needed – It's a place where everyone shares a love for good home-style meals, music, and games; and it's a meeting place where caring people enjoy sharing their day with others.

Programs

There are many senior programs published that describe or promote the special activities at the senior center. Listed below are several on-going programs that get little attention:

Picking & Grinning Band - Tuesday and Fridays, 10:00 am - Noon.

Yoga - Gentle Hatha – Monday, 10:30am –Noon - A form of exercise that works to promote better balance & flexibility while calming your mind & energizing you sprit. Instructor Tamara Byrnes

Brain Gym - Wednesday, 10:30 - 11:30. A series of simple and enjoyable movements that is used to enhance the experience of whole-brain learning. Improving memory, reading, writing and concentration and well being: Instructor Elaine Webb

Computer Class - Thursday, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm., Instructor – Dave Hunley

Watercolor Classes - Thursday 10:00am - Noon - Exploring basic drawing concepts. The study of light & shadows, brush stroke techniques and color work to produce works of art to be proud of. Instructor Tamara Byrnes

Beading Class - Tuesday and Wednesday 1:00pm - Enjoy the basic skills of bead stringing with beautiful glass, stone & pearl beads. You can create a necklace, bracelet or a pair of earrings for every outfit.

Diabetic Support Group - Every 4th Tuesday of the month - 1:00 pm. Wakulla County Health Department. Health Educator – Kim Tucker.

Better Breathers - Every 3rd Wednesday of the month - 1:00pm. - American Lung Association. A group of people helping people. The Better Breather’s Club provides an opportunity for people to meet and learn about chronic lung disease, including asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, bronchitis and emphysema.

Bingo - Monday - Friday, 1:00 pm - 2:00pm

Cards - Canasta, Pinochle, Monday - Friday - 10:00am - Noon and 12:30 am - 5:00 pm Contact Bridge - Monday 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Chair Exercise - Thursday 10:30 - 11:00. Low impact chair exercise. Instructor Mary Updegraff.

Gospel Sing – 1st Thursday of every month at 10:30am - Noon.

Crafts – Tuesday, 10:30am – A variety of unique & different craft projects including beadwork, clay, shell work, seasonal wreaths, Christmas ornaments and garden art. Instructor Tamara Byrnes.

Beginners Line Dancing - Every Monday at 1:30 pm

Line Dancing - Every Monday and Wednesday 2:00 pm - 3:00
